New health service will aid wellbeing

A new social prescribing service has been introduced into North Tyneside.

And the service is being delivered in partnership with Age UK North Tyneside, North Tyneside MIND and Percy Hedley Foundation.

The service, which started last week, is more about preventative measures to provide customers with coping strategies to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

Working with public health commissioners, social prescribing will alleviate pressure on GPs and save vital funds for the health service by reducing appointments and making more appropriate use of clinician’s time.

The service is available for adults, giving them independence to access the service direct or if they prefer they can visit their GP or health professional to request a referral.

Executive director Elaine Inglis said: “This service will inform future developments and strengthen preventative services.

“We encourage anyone who feels they may benefit from the service, not to hesitate in giving us a call, they can be assured we will treat them with courtesy, dignity and respect where confidentiality is uppermost in our referral systems.”
