New season set to start at Cullercoats Tennis Club

Cullercoats Tennis Club's new season starts on Friday with playing opportunities for all ages and abilities.

The club, which has three flood-lit courts next to St George’s Church, has an extensive coaching programme for adults and juniors and social and competitive play for adults.

Cullercoats has a thriving junior section with more than 100 youngsters attending coaching sessions, which not only focus on skill and technical development but on fun and enjoyment.

Sessions for all ages take place on Saturdays from 9am to 3pm and on Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm – check website or contact head coach Stuart Cass on [email protected] on 07787 543072 for details.

The cost of junior membership includes eight weeks of free coaching from the beginning of April, year-round access to the courts, family social doubles tournaments, club tournaments and team matches. Subsequent coaching is £4 per session (paid in ten-week blocks).

For those children wishing to play competitively, Cullercoats runs various age-group teams and was last year named the club with the most competing juniors in the north east for its size.

Adult coaching sessions take place on Sundays ­– 5pm to 6pm for absolute beginners, 6pm to 7.30pm for improvers and team/social club players from 7.30pm to 9pm. Adult coaching is free from April to the end of September for members.

Club nights for adults where members can mix-in and play doubles take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6.30pm.
