Developers have started the second phase of houses on a former historic shipyard.
Places for People and Urban Splash are regenerating Smith’s Dock in North Shields with hundreds of homes, workspaces, leisure facilities and public areas.
Now, the second of the Smokehouses buildings – filled with one, two and three-bedroom waterfront homes priced from £125,000 – has been launched.
Guy Ackernley, director of residential sales at Urban Splash, said: “Since we launched the first Smokehouses for sale a couple of months ago, we’ve had such a flurry of interest.
“We’ve decided therefore to release these new homes in the second building now; with a great starting price point and Help to Buy available.
“We feel it’s the right time to allow people another chance to move into this growing community.”
The Smokehouses are just one of the residential elements at Smith’s Dock; the three storey, waterfront family Town Houses standing on the Plateau are now complete and fully sold, while earlier this year, ten George Clarke-designed Fab Houses were also launched for sale.
Guy continued: “The varied composition of properties on offer are testament to how varied we want the community here to be.”
The waterfront Smokehouses comprise of two buildings – designed by architects Simpson Haugh – and offer a range of one, two and three-bedroom properties, ready for occupation from early next year.
Nigel Brewer, of Places for People, said: “Smith’s Dock is such an important regeneration scheme and I am delighted to see the increasing number of launch events we’re hosting as more buildings and homes come to fruition at this site.
“We’re working really hard to create a fantastic new community – albeit one that’s very deeply connected to the heritage of the original Smith’s Dock – and welcome more residents as they move here.”
