Hackney carriages and private hire vehicles operating in the borough have demonstrated impressive results in spot checks carried out by enforcement officers from North Tyneside Council’s licensing team.

Enforcement officers carry out regular checks on the functionality and cleanliness of cars, ensuring that all licensed vehicles are safe, secure and comfortable.

Coun John Harrison, cabinet member for housing and transport, said: “It is reassuring for both the council and its residents that we are able to ensure their safety in a licensed taxi.

“We will continue to carry out compliance checks and are committed to ensuring that all licensed vehicles operating within the area are of a high standard.”

In the last three months, a total of 180 vehicles have been inspected by council officers. Some minor defects were detected however; they were all quickly rectified in an appropriate manner.
