North Shields rugby club hold annual Chesties Challenge
North Shields RFC held its annual end of season Chesties Challenge match and club dinner at the weekend.
The match between the players and veterans was a hard fought contest in the first half but the younger side ran out comfortable winners in the end.
First team captain Richard Carr was presented with the trophy after the dinner.
The Northumberland Junior Challenge Trophy won by the Artisans was also on show.
First team player of the season was awarded to scrum-half Jack Rendles while the players’ player was given to centre/flanker Ben Dalton for the third year running.
The most improved player was prop Lee Brown, and scrum-half Dom Foster was the young player of the season.
For the second team, the player of the season was second row/centre Richard Sampson, and the players’ player was the side’s top try scorer, fly-half Kyle Wharton.
For the cup winning third team the player of the season was fly-half Jack Jeffrey.
The clubman of the year was Paul Wells and the Sid Wiseman Award was given to Keith Gray. The final presentation, the Sniffer Award for commitment and dedication, was given jointly to Lynn and Joe Lopes.
