From April 1 next year, construction, housing repairs and maintenance services – currently delivered by Kier North Tyneside – will return to the direct management of North Tyneside Council.

And the authority will be opening the process to appoint a variety of sub-contractors and suppliers to join its books.

It is looking for skilled professionals, including plumbers, joiners, electricians, plasterers, painters and roofers, as well as those who can supply electrical, plumbing and building materials.

Two events will be held at The Parks Sports Centre, North Shields, on July 24 and July 25, for both small and large sub-contractors and suppliers.

To book a place visit Steve Cox, cabinet member for housing, said: “The council is committed to ensuring that whenever we sub-contract work, local tradespeople and businesses have the opportunity to bid for it, giving them the chance to grow and thrive.”

The sessions for sub-contractors will take place on Tuesday, July 24 (aimed at smaller local businesses), from 8am to 9am, or 5.30pm to 6.30pm; and on Wednesday, July 25, (aimed at larger, national businesses) at the same times.

For suppliers the sessions for small, local businesses will take place on the Tuesday, from 9.30am to 10.30am, or 4pm to 5pm; or for larger businesses, on the Wednesday during the same time slots.
