STAFF and friends from Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust got on their bikes for a three-day cycle challenge in aid of charity.

A team of 32 employees, including consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, administrative staff, surgeons and porters, based at the Cobalt Business Park in Wallsend, took on a 136-mile coast-to-coast journey from Whitehaven to Tynemouth, raising £500 for the trust’s charity Bright, set up to buy specialist equipment which are over and above what the trust is able to afford from NHS funds.

The cycle ride also supports the trust’s health and wellbeing programme for members of staff who want to improve thier fitness or learn to relax.

Organiser Tony Parker, payroll officer at the trust, said: “I arranged the Coast to Coast cycle ride because it’s a great way to get active and raise money for Bright, the trust’s charity.

“This is my fourth Coast to Coast ride and the route seems to throw up different challenges every time.”
