NEWCASTLE United’s tea lady has brewed up thousands of cups of tea in her 44 years at the club.
But Wallsend’s Kath Cassidy was the one being waited on on Friday, as the special guest of honour at the Pinpoint Recruitment Junior League’s under 11s Challenge Shield final.
The 85-year-old enjoyed the game, that saw Newcastle City Juniors beat Newcastle East End, but only after extra time with a lengthy penalty shoot out dividing the teams.
Kath, who gave the trophies to all of the finalists, said: “It is such an honour to be asked to be here, I feel very privileged.
“It was a tough game and both sides deserved to win, they did ever so well.
“I used to watch all the football when my sons played so this has taken me back, it was wonderful.
“I can’t believe I was asked, it was amazing.”
The league’s marketing manager Gordon Stewart added: “We are honoured to have such a well respected lady help us out anwith presenting the awards to the finalists. This is a moment they will always remember.”
