Officials say an offer to encourage more people to join a gym is working out well.
Thousands of people have taken advantage of North Tyneside Council’s latest Contours offer – a six week membership of the gyms, pools and leisure centres for £30.
Nearly 2,500 have taken up the offer, which ends on August 31.
Coun Eddie Darke, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “The response to our summer offer has been fantastic and we have far exceeded our target already.
“A Contours membership gives you access to five modern gyms, four inviting pools, 195 classes, two relaxing spas and a friendly, personalised service.
“This offer gives people the chance to try all of these facilities over six weeks.
“We very much hope that after sampling what’s on offer with Contours they will continue their membership as a way of having a more active lifestyle and improving their health.”
A membership gives access to the Lakeside Centre in Killingworth, Hadrian Leisure Centre in Wallsend, Tynemouth Pool, Waves at Whitley Bay and The Parks in North Shields.
All Contours gyms now also have the innovative ‘InBody’ technology which uses electrical pulses to precisely measure muscle mass, body fat percentage, body mass index and much more, allowing instructors to design a personalised mix of activities.
