AS part of Operation Iron, police officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols, as well as handing out advice on deterring criminals, in New York and on the Moorhouse Estate and Silverlink and Cobalt retail and business parks in North Shields.
A crime prevention event is also being held at Marks and Spencer at Silverlink tomorrow from noon to 2pm.
Neighbourhood beat manager Pc Julie Waller said: “Marks and Spencer has donated funds to purchase purse chains and ultra-violet pens, which we will be giving out to the public.
“It’s important for people to follow some basis crime prevention advice when out shopping, and using a purse chain can help keep your valuables safe.
“We want to remind people to take a common-sense approach to looking after purses.
“I’d like to reassure people that North Shields is a safe place to shop, and by working together we can keep it that way.”
The neighbourhood team also held a crime prevention stand at the Meadowell Well Connected Community Centre and the following week at The Cedarwood Centre which was well attended by local residents.
