HUNDREDS braved the rain to see the Olympic flame as it passed through Whitley Bay during the Olympic torch relay.
Residents from nearby estates lined the pavements as the relay moved along the road from St Mary’s Lighthouse, past the golf course and then on towards the Spanish City dome, before heading off towards Cullercoats and Tynemouth.
Children of all ages waved Union Jack flags and free ribbons, which had been given out by members of the Olympic support team, as the torch relay passed by.
Loud cheers could be heard as the flame stopped at various “kiss” points along the route.
The “Kiss” points are where two torchbearers join their torches together and one flame lights the next relay runners torch.
