Pupils at a Whitley Bay school are enjoying a state-of-the-art outdoor space thanks to one parent’s hard work.
Nursery and reception children at Star of the Sea Primary School discussed with staff what they would like in a new outdoor area.
They decided on a stage, a den, a bike park and a building that could be changed for a variety of role play ideas – and one of the parents, Kirk Delstanche, stepped in to create the new area for free during the Easter holidays.
Deputy headteacher Katherine Dimambro said: “When the children came back to school they were amazed at how fantastic the area was, and they have played in it every day since.
“The outdoor area is now a really fun and interesting place to be.
“The children whrive while accessing a wide range of experiences enjoying the outdoors and all that it now offers.
“We are ging to start growing our own vegetables and plants in the platbers Mr Delstanche made for us and can’t wait to taste and see the results.
“A big thank you for Mr Delstanche for all his hard work in giving the school a fantastic outdoor area.”
