PARKING: Fine seems too harsh

editorial image

When I was in an optician’s in Whitley Road an older, disabled gentleman pulled up adjacent to the kerb, displayed his disabled badge, put his hazard lights on and took a load into the adjacent charity shop.

Within seconds a traffic warden appeared and issued a parking notice to the car.

This warden must have seen the man pull up and apparently could not wait to issue the notice.

As the yellow markings to indicate parking restrictions should be 250mm long and may extend down the kerb face, the gentleman may have a chance to appeal as the horizontal markings in Whitley Road are all but worn away and are not obvious from a passing vehicle.

Under the circumstances an advisory, rather than enforcement, role would have been both more appropriate and humane.
