PARKING: System can be simplified

I write further to letters on parking permits.

The council claims administration costs as justification for the massive price hike in parking permits. It is not beyond the wit of a basic programmer to link the permit system with the council tax demand.

Issue a tax demand and the system links the household with a permit scheme. If one exists, issue a permit – simple, no cost, no application required, no reminder required and very little administration.

I live in a residents-only parking scheme street. It works at weekends, but due to the charges now imposed at Tynemouth station and the park and ride commuters’ reluctance to pay on weekdays, they park in the surrounding streets, while the car park sits empty.

I often can’t park in the street where I live.

Good scheme? You decide.
