Payback scheme clocks up hours

A SCHEME where offenders work unpaid for the benefit of local communities, delivered 30,311 hours of work across North Tyneside during 2012.

This equates to £184,295 worth of unpaid labour, through the Community Payback scheme.

Northumbria Probation Trust, which supervises the offenders who undertake the work, has released its annual report, which includes the detail of hours worked.

The scheme punishes the offender, supports their rehabilitation and provides an opportunity to pay something back to local communities.
