Fell’s Kitchen was created by chef Chris Reay as the new arm of his long-running catering firm Epicurus.

The business aims to deliver restaurant-quality food for lovers of the outdoors looking for more from their day out.

Offering guided walks as a qualified mountain leader, the experienced chef uses transportable wood-fired stoves to cook meals for guests in remote locations.

Fell’s Kitchen creates a unique experience for those looking for an alternative to a cold picnic in the rural beauty spots of Northumberland and Cumbria.

Chris, from North Shields, said: “Fell’s Kitchen is a real passion project and I am delighted to finally bring it to life.

“The business combines my interest in walking with my skills as a chef and provides the ideal opportunity to introduce people to some of my favourite parts of the region, with the added bonus of a delicious culinary experience.

“It’s certainly not straightforward cooking outdoors and creating high-quality food in these locations can be tricky. I cook meals that can be enjoyed in a rural setting, allowing customers to tuck into a home-made black pudding scotch egg or hot navarin of lamb while enjoying the stunning views of our local countryside.”

The 49-year-old has managed Epicurus for more than 20 years, providing catering services to corporate clients and large private functions such as birthday parties and weddings.

Since Covid-19 restrictions began in March 2020, catering has been heavily impacted, leading Chris to quickly adapt his offering to service a new type of at-home customer.

By creating cook-at-home meals, afternoon teas and special occasion menus, Chris has managed his business within Covid-19 restrictions with the hope that hospitality and events will slowly return in the latter half of 2021.

Businesses all over the UK have had to adapt their offering to continue trading against such an uncertain and difficult backdrop and with Fell’s Kitchen, Chris hopes to tap into the growth of UK staycations and the upsurge in demand from people looking for a different type of day out.
