Shannon Connelly, who works at the Monkseaton Arms pub, is braving the shave and having her head shaved.

She set out with the aim of raising £1,500 to be donated to four charities – including Prostate Cancer UK, Barnardos, Breast Cancer and Mind – and has so far passed the £1,900 mark.

Shannon, who is also a volunteer worker for Barnardos, will be getting her head shaved on Sunday at the Monkseaton Arms at around 7pm and is hoping to pass the £2,000 mark on the night.

Pub bosses are hoping the community can support Shannon’s fundraiser, and will have collection buckets to raise additional funds.

Leigh Dryden, general manager of the Monkseaton Arms, said: “Shannon is a valued member of my team who is loved by colleagues and customers for her personality and character not just her work ethic.

“Nothing demonstrates this more than the fact she is willing to make such a great gesture by shaving her head for these worthy charities.

“I can’t speak highly enough of her and can only applaud what she is going to do.

“As a pub we try our best to be a hub for the community but when a member of my team goes the extra mile in this way I can only stand back in total admiration of her.

“We’re hoping it will attract a good crowd to see her make the brave gesture to raise money for these worthy charities including the Whitley Bay branch of Barnardos.”
