Try your hand at yoga
Residents interested in trying yoga are being invited to an open day.
The Yoga Station, based at Whitley Bay Metro Station, is holding the open day on Sunday, September 15, from 11am to 3pm.
Free taster sessions for a mother and babies class, a Yoga ‘Gold’ class, a Hatha and Ashtanga class will be available to try on a first come basis.
The Yoga Station will provide all the equipment necessary, and attendees are asked to wear comfortable clothing.
The Yoga Station, based on Platform 1, opened in 2013 and is about yoga for everybody, but with a difference.
It is community led, and volunteer run, studio which seeks to include those who may need more support to enjoy the benefits of yoga and associated activities, such as tai chi and mindfulness.
It is part of The Station Master's Centre, which includes The Station Master’s Garden Community Garden and Green Beans Market and works to integrate many elements of what it is to live well – community, good food, fun, music, art, holistic health, creativity.
Yoga Station director Helen Frampton said: “People are often scared about yoga and tai chi and think they won’t be ‘good enough’ or ‘know what to do’.
“The open day provides a chance to ask questions, try it out and understand what might work best for you in a friendly and relaxed place.”
Coffee Central, next door, will also be open for coffee and cakes.
