Persian event to mark the start of Spring

RESIDENTS are being invited to a taste of the Middle East.

North Tyneside Council is helping to host a special Persian festival – a Sizdah Bedar – to mark the beginning of spring.

The free event takes place on Saturday, from 11am to 3pm, at Wallsend Civic Hall Grounds.

Residents are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy a fusion of cultural entertainment, from the Northumbrian Pipers’ Society to an Iranian rapper.

Also at the festival will be members of Crossings, a cross-cultural, community music project, which brings together local and international musicians, asylum seekers and refugees.

Visitors will also be able make baskets in a willow weaving workshop, and face painting is available throughout the day.

Holly Connon’s Pan-omenal Steel Band will also be performing from 1pm, playing a range of music from traditional Caribbean to pop.
