A new home has been found for Wallsend Post Office.
Plans have been drawn up to relocate the existing branch in the High Street, The Forum, into 57-58 High Street West, Wallsend.
Officials at the Post Office say it will allow the branch to be larger, brighter and more modern.
The branch would continue to provide the same wide range of products and services that are currently available, and the opening hours would also remain the same.
A spokesperson said the proposals are part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business through longer opening hours and modern, open plan environments.
A six-week public consultation is now under way and is due to end on July 11.
Gail Burnett, area network change manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.”
She added: “We are confident that this vibrant post office will meet customer needs.”
During the public consultation, Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal.
