Visitors to performances at Playhouse Whitley Bay can now enjoy free Metro travel to and from the shows.

In a special deal struck between the venue and transport operator, theatre tickets can now be used for inspection up to two hours before and after performances.

The benefit is being run on a trial basis until April 2016, although officials at the Playhouse are hoping it can continue in the long run.

The nearest Metro station is at Monkseaton, just a ten minute walk away, while Whitley Bay Metro Station is a few minutes further away.

Coun Eddie Darke, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “This is a great initiative and one that I’m sure will be very popular with those going along to enjoy all of the fantastic events and performances at the Playhouse.”

Among the acts lined up for the Autumn and Winter Season include The Lindisfarne Story, Paul Potts, and the ever popular Christmas Pantomime.
