Plumber hoping to be named UK's best

A North Shields plumber is in the running to be named the best in the country '“ and is looking for public support.

Richard Weir is on the shortlist for the UK Plumber of the Year 2016 title, run by JT in partnership with Bristan and Plumb Center.

A judging panel has selected Richard as one of 15 finalists to go into the next stage of the competition, where the public will vote for their chosen winner.

Now in its second year, the competition called on plumbers nationwide to enter in a bid to find Britain’s finest.

The competition is designed to reward and recognise the talent within the plumbing industry and ask entrants to demonstrate their plumbing, service and business skills.

The five plumbers with the most votes will be invited to an interview session with the judging panel. The UK Plumber of the Year 2016 will win £10,000 worth of prizes.

Richard, who works at Macoun Energy Limited, said: “I’m a passionate engineer who believes in providing a great service to my clients.

“I’m very focused on understanding all elements of my trade and so am continually upgrading my skills and knowledge in order to deliver the best quality I can.

“I started my career as an apprentice and totally believe in developing people to enable the skills to be passed on.

“I also believe in protecting our people and to that end I am using this platform to launch an awareness programme of the dangers of asbestos in the work place.

“I am linking myself with the Mesothelioma UK charity which supports people with this debilitating disease.

“If I win I will be donating all of my winnings to this charity.”
