Police search for CCTV man

A CCTV image has been released of a man police want to speak to in connection with damage to 15 cars in North Shields.

Officers have previously appealed for information about the spate of damage which took place on the evening of Saturday, May 25, to cars along Howard Street, Union Street, Camden Street, and Yeoman Street in North Shields.

North Shields Neighbourhood Sergeant Steve Nicholson said: “This appears to have been a sustained and unprovoked attack on parked cars causing damage in excess of £10,000.

“The offenders ran over most of the cars, causing bonnet and roof damage, and also systematically kicked off wing mirrors.

“This has been an isolated incident in streets that are generally unaffected by crime and anti social behaviour.

“I would like to reassure the local community that police are continuing their efforts in the investigation of this crime and that every avenue to identify the offenders is being progressed.”

Police believe that five people who were seen drinking near the Fish Quay may have caused the damage.

Two men aged 19 and one aged 28 and a woman aged 21 have been arrested and are currently on police bail.

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
