DRUGS and thousands of pounds have been seized during a police operation in North Tyneside.
On Wednesday, May 23, and Thursday, May 24, officers carried out search warrants at nine houses in the Meadowell Estate area of North Shields after receiving information from the public about criminal activity taking place.
During the searches officers seized an amount of cannabis and around £10,000 in cash.
Five men were arrested in connection with the drugs find. Four of the men - aged 60, 45, 35, 46 - have been bailed pending further enquiries. The fifth man, aged 46, was given a caution. Enquiries are ongoing.
Inspector Geoff Cross from the North Shields neighbourhood policing team said: “I hope this action shows that whenever we receive information from the community we act on it.
“This is just part of the ongoing work to tackle drug use and supply in the North Tyneside area.
“Officers will continue to target those who cause most harm in the community and they can rest assured there will be more activity in the area.
“We will patrol in the locations which most need our attention and protect our communities.
“Receiving information from the public is vital and I’d encourage residents to get in touch with us if they have information about any crime or disorder that is taking place where they live.”
Anyone with information about drug use and supply in their area should contact their local neighbourhood policing tea on 101 ext 69191.
