Support is continuing to grow for a project to breathe new life into a former outdoor pool.
The Friends of Tynemouth Outdoor Pool are driving forward with plans for an ambitious redevelopment of the derelict outdoor pool site, originally opened in 1925, at the south end of Tynemouth Longsands beach.
And the project has scooped another nomination for a charity cash award.
After winning Asda’s Chosen by you, Given by us award thanks to shoppers at the Benton store, the group has been nominated by Nationwide Building Society customers for the society’s own in-branch voting scheme, Community Match.
Nationwide customers can vote for their favourite charity in the Newcastle, Gosforth, Blyth, Wallsend, and Whitley Bay branches until Thursday, June 30, with a first prize of £600 to the project which picks up the most votes.
Barry Bell, from the Friends group, said: “Once again, we’re delighted that the wider community is demonstrating their support for the project by nominating us for Nationwide’s Community Match scheme.
“This nomination, plus our recent success in Asda’s Chosen by you, Given by us scheme in their Benton store, clearly shows that people from across the region want to see the pool back in use.
“It also confirms that the project, which is one of the biggest and most exciting community driven regeneration projects in the UK, continues to capture the passion and imagination of thousands.”
