Two more acts have been announced for a popular summer festival, with one likely to make fans ‘Shout’.

Pop music icon Lulu has been confirmed as headliner for the Sunday afternoon show at the Mouth of the Tyne Festival in the grounds of Tynemouth Priory and Castle.

She will be joined by BRIT and MOBO award-winning singer-songwriter Lemar.

Lulu, celebrating 50 years in music, had chart success with hits including Shout, Leave a Little Love, The Man Who Sold the World, Eurovision smash Boom Bang-a-Bang and Relight my Fire, which she sang with Take That.

Mayor Norma Redfearn said “The Mouth of the Tyne’s Sunday concert is always very popular with groups of friends and families, getting together to enjoy the fantastic setting of the Priory and listen to some familiar songs.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Lulu and Lemar to the festival and I look forward to their performances.”

The announcement follows the news that north east music legend Bryan Ferry is to play the Festival on Thursday, July 7, and pop superstar Will Young will perform the following day.

A show by Grammy nominated James Bay, on Saturday, July 9, is already sold out.

In a further announcement, artists with a north east connection have been added as special guests for the festival’s evening concerts.

Wearside-born Nadine Shah will support Bryan Ferry; Tunde Baiyewu, the voice of the Lighthouse Family, will take to the stage ahead of Will Young and Hyde & Beast, featuring Futureheads drummer Dave Hyde, will appear at James Bay’s sell out show.

The Mouth of the Tyne Festival, now in its 12th year, has welcomed a vast range of household name artists to North Tyneside including Paul Weller, Beverley Knight, The Script and James Morrison.

International street entertainers are once again expected to take to the coastal village to entertain visitors and residents.

The Mouth of the Tyne Festival is organised by North Tyneside Council and supported by Kier, Tyne Met College and Port of Tyne.

Jon Vincent, principal and Chief Executive of Tyne Metropolitan College, said: “I am delighted to confirm TyneMet College’s continuing sponsorship and support for the Mouth of the Tyne Festival, in partnership with North Tyneside Council.

“It’s a fantastic community event that many of our learners enjoy.

“We are proud to be associated with the event which continues to go from strength to strength.”

The first release of tickets will go on sale at 9am this Friday at www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
