Posting a grand sum for charity
A generous couple have put their own stamp on fundraising.
Retired Dave and Grace Percy, of Wallsend, have obtained large numbers of stamps from around the world, boosted by the purchase of job lots and donations from collectors.
They have counted and packed the stamps into groups of hundreds and are selling them in the PDSA shop in Whitley Bay to support the charity, which provides free veterinary care for sick and injured pets of people in need.
Initially the packs were priced at a £1, but they were proving such good value that a £1.50 charge was introduced.
Already the couple have raised more than £1,000, and now have their sights set on doubling the total.
Dave said: “It seems that the old-fashioned hobby of stamp collecting is alive and well, and gaining momentum, which is good news for this well-deserving charity.”
