Programme will develop new skills

Residents can learn new skills, develop a hobby and meet others at a new initiative being launched.

The Learning Lab Programme aims to bring people together to share their interests at sessions taking place on Saturday afternoons in November and December in the Whitley Bay Big Local Shop, in Park View.

Learning Labs will offer an insight into the wealth of knowledge and skills available in Whitley Bay, enabling others to learn and develop a new hobby.

The programme starts on Saturday, November 8, from 1pm to 4pm, with a session on PATH – an interactive way of planning for the future to help individuals, businesses and building better communities.

Other sessions include Make Your Own Cosmetics, Islamic Art with henna, Iris Paper Folding cards, Basics of Ukelele, and Christmas glass painting.

All sessions are free of charge; places are limited and can be booked by visiting the shop at 82 Park View or by emailing

Tim Keilty, who sits on the Partnership board, said: “What excites me about the Learning Labs is the vast range of opportunities offered and the diverse backgrounds of the session leaders, including some people supported by New Prospects.

“Getting different people together can only make our community stronger.”

Whitley Bay Big Local will run a Speed Fishing event on November 11, between 6pm and 8pm at its shop.
