Project appeals for biographies

I READ with interest Mrs Sheila Gent’s letter regarding Bomber Command and the new memorial (News Guardian, July 19)..

The North East Aircraft Museum has embarked on an ambitious project to document as many biographies as possible in honour of those airmen and women from the north east of England who served their country during the two world wars, many of them making the ultimate sacrifice.

The work to date (an index of nearly 3,500 personnel) can be found at

We welcome any information, especially service records and photographs from readers that would help complete our tribute.

Information can be handed in or posted to the museum at NEAM, Old Washington Road, Sunderland, SR5 3HZ.

Any information provided will be carefully scanned by the museum and returned to the owner in the condition in which it was received (please include a return address).

Any electronic information can be sent directly to our e-mail address –
