Project to outline plans for lasting memorial to lost fishermen
Campaigners for a lasting memorial to North Shields fishermen lost at sea are inviting the public to see their initial plans.
The North Shields Fishermen’s Heritage Project was set up in 2015 to create a memorial to fishermen who had left the port of North Shields and never returned. On Monday, they will show their proposed locations and designs during a launch event at the Old Low Light Heritage Centre, on North Shields Fish Quay, from 10am to 4pm.
At the event, people will be able to hear from members and the group’s plans to raise £75,000.
“People can see the range of designs from prominent artists. Visitors will also be able to vote for their favourite design.”
The event is being held throughout the day and people are being welcomed to spend as long or short a time as they want.
Mr McDermott added: “Please come along and support the project, and if you’re lucky, you might hear a few salty sea dog tales too!”
