Young people supported into an employment have been showcasing their skills at a fundraising event.

Six young people supported by Barnardo’s Palmersville Training in Benton spoke to more than 100 local business people at a dinner while raising funds for the charity.

They were there in a bid to secure employment and highlight the benefits of taking on apprentices from Barnardo’s training arm.

Gillian Childs, employer engagement officer from Barnardo’s Palmersville Training, said: “The young people spoke with such confidence and enthusiasm.

“They rose to the occasion.

“It’s wonderful to see that the local business community has recognised their skills and worth and offered them the opportunity of paid employment.”

Caroline Pillans, 23, who is currently employed at Palmersville Training, said: “Barnardo’s really helped me to develop my skills.”

“I was employed for a while and was indecisive about making choices in what I wanted for my future. I hope we have more events like this, it’s a good chance to showcase what Palmersville is all about.”
