A Whitley Bay pub is to temporarily close its doors as it undergoes a major refurbishment.

The Kittiwake will close for three weeks on November 2, ahead of a £150,000 refurbishment by Star Pubs & Bars.

Run by Johnny Stewart and Vikki Duff, the pub will undergo an overhaul inside, with new carpets, wooden flooring, and new seating.

The kitchen will also be upgraded to offer freshly cooked lunches, meals and snacks.

Vikki said: “We needed to upgrade the interior so it would appeal to residents.

“We’re creating a stylish and comfortable environment for people to socialise in and a great place where the whole family can come for good quality freshly cooked food.

“At the moment the pub’s internal layout doesn’t really work. The Kittiwake is massive and feels like two pubs in one – a bar and a lounge. We had two options, either split the building in two or open it up, which we’re now doing.”

“We’ll be open at the end of November, in time for Christmas bookings.”

Chris Jowsey, trading director of Star Pubs & Bars, said: “Johnny and Vicky are great licensees so we’re delighted to be investing in The Kittiwake helping to broaden its appeal and secure its long-term future.”
