Students helped bring some Christmas cheer to their community after collecting donations for a local food bank.
More than 180 sixth form pupils from Monkseaton High School took part in the appeal and donated everything from tinned vegetables to baby food for The Bay Food Bank.
Alison Thompson, head of Year 13, oversaw the appeal and was overwhelmed by the students’ support and the amount collected.
Year 12 student Matthew McLeod said: “It is important to help others in our community, especially at Christmas time.”
Due to popular demand from the students the school will continue to support The Bay Food Bank.
And lower school students also gave generously in the lead up to the festive period, supporting Metro Radio’s Cash for Kids Mission Christmas Appeal.
Students purchased a toy, either individually or as a tutor group, to be donated to young people who may not receive a gift themselves at Christmas.
