Students have been cooking up a storm as they look to bring a taste of summer to the shelves.
Nicholsons Butchers, in Whitley Bay, held a competition for Year 8 pupils at Monkseaton Middle School to design a new summer quiche to sell in the shop.
The food technology classes investigated summer flavours for quiches.
A winner from each class was selected to go forward to the final. The quiche recipes were produced at the shop’s in-house bakery and tasted by customers who voted for their favourite.
The winner was a Parma ham, basil, cherry tomato and cheddar quiche, created by Louise Curry and Hannah Gilder.
The students went to the shop to see how their quiche was made and to pick up a free one. The quiche is now on sale at Nicholsons.
