Youngsters have been supporting children get a better education thousands of miles away.
Cullercoats Primary School’s Key Stage 2 pupils Holly and Hannah Mitchell spent part of their summer holidays visiting a relative volunteering for the Infectious Diseases Institute in part of Uganda.
The pair spent a day at Kitante Primary School in Kampala where children are taught in classes of 125.
On their return, they reported their findings to the School Council who were keen to show support for those less fortunate than themselves by having a pen and pencil drive.
Hundreds of pens, pencils and pencil sharpeners were donated to the cause and have been packed up ready to send to Kitante Primary School.
