Pupils prepare for reading challenge

Pupils are preparing to be bookworms as part of a month-long love of reading.

From February 24 to March 21, primary pupils at Kings Priory School will take part in the annual ‘Read for my School’ competition, where children in various age groups attempt to read as many free online books as possible through www.readformyschool.co.uk

In addition to the sponsored ‘readathon’, children will also enjoy a book fair from March 3 to 6, when the Travelling Book Company visits.

To mark World Book Day on March 6, pupils at the Percy Park Site will dress up as their favourite literary character for £1 in aid of Book Aid International.

There will be a reading afternoon tea at the Huntington Place site with pupils and parents from Reception to Year 8.

Sue Melbourne, head of primary and middle schools at Kings Priory, said: “An enjoyment of books and reading is not only key to learning at Kings Priory, but opens up a world of possibilities and, we hope, a lifelong love of literature.”
