Record-breaking GCSE results for borough’s youngsters

YOUNGSTERS across North Tyneside are celebrating another year of record-breaking GCSE results.

A total of 58 per cent of students achieved five or more GCSEs at grade A*- C including English and Maths, which was a five per cent increase on last year’s results, and 84 per cent of students achieved five or more GCSEs at grade A*- C – again a rise of five per cent.

Coun David Lilly, cabinet member for children, young people and learning, said: “This year’s record-breaking GCSE results show that our schools and colleges are providing excellent standards of education and support to all of our young people.

“Praise must go to our students who’ve worked extremely hard towards today, and to the staff who tirelessly support them.

“We will continue to maintain high expectations for our young people and encourage them to aspire to high standards.”
