Film fans are in for a treat with the return of the Whitley Bay Film Festival for the fourth year.
More than 35 films will be screened around the town between August 16 and September 5 alongside a programme of art, live performances, music, food and exhibitions.
The Spanish City Dome is to be turned into a multiplex cinema showing up to five movies a day before the festival goes international with the Whitley Bay Film Festival Movie Cruise to Amsterdam over two nights.
Highlights include a 1940s themed Moroccan gala opening event followed by a screening of the 1942 classic Casablanca and Hitchcock’s Vertigo complete with trip up St Mary’s Lighthouse.
And there is also the Secret Cinema, where the location and film are kept under wraps until the last minute.
The festival will also showcase new films by local filmmakers, community groups and the best of independent films.
Archive footage celebrating the glories of Whitley Bay past and present will be on show while exhibitions relating to the programme will be open throughout.
