A children’s centre in North Tyneside is holding a special event next Sunday to raise funds for refugees.

It takes place between noon and 3pm at The Splat Centre in Whitley Bay.

Owner Michael Burns said: “In response to the recent refugee crisis, we have decided to organise and hold a charity event to raise essential funds that will be used by specific charities to help and support the refugees.

“Tickets are only £3 (adults and babies under one free) and this includes soft play, treasure hunts, crafts and an opportunity for each child to make and write a card for a child refugee. A translator will help us to achieve the messages between the children by offering translation and set templates for the children to use.

“If you would like to bring one small item to donate to a child refugee, there will be an area where the children can get involved with packing parcels for the refugee children.

“There will also be face-painting, stalls, raffles, tombola and games and all money raised will go to those charities working directly with the refugees at this difficult time. If you would like a stall, we are simply asking for a £5 donation.

“We have all been touched by the harrowing images in the press. Something must be done.”
