High Farm Post Office, in Chicken Road, Wallsend, will be unveiling its new ‘local’ service at 1pm on Friday following a refurbishment.

The service will be provided at an open-plan counter in the store, which will be open 8.30am to 6pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; and 9am to 8pm Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

As a result of the changes, the office’s opening hours will increase by an extra 13 hours 30 minutes a week.

Dave Ogleby, area manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are.

“We are confident this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”

Customers can access services, including Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.

Other services include withdrawals using a Post Office Card Account, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, and customers can also pay bills, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.
