Seven years past, at Age UK
I went to a meeting about Whitley Bay.
Politics, egos, anger and shame,
Cries of unfairness and who’s to blame?
We felt just neglected, had so much to learn
WE had to do something, the tide HAD to turn.
If someone had said that seven years on
There’d be a new seafront, the Avenue gone.
We’d have our own cinema, ukulele band,
Be visited by families, and not just for our sand.
Community markets, festivals, carnival too,
The land train, a park run, a smartened up loo.
Gardens and parks where we all dig and plant
A community that says WE can, NOT we can’t.
A Chamber of Trade with over 200 members
This is #Our Whitley Bay, let’s all remember.
We know it’s not perfect, there’s still more we can do,
And that’s down to the many, not just the few.
But as covers come off, reveal what’s underneath,
Let’s cheer, together, and carry on, with belief.
