Restaurant up for top national award
A popular North Shields restaurant has been shortlisted for a national award in recognition of its fish-themed delicacies on its menu.
The Staith House, on North Shields Fish Quay, has been shortlisted for the 2016 Seafood Restaurant of the Year competition organised by Seafish and The Caterer.
Seafood Restaurant of the Year was created in 2015 to find restaurants demonstrating both excellent examples of the cooking and serving of fish and shellfish.
The Staith House is up against ten other restaurants, with all receiving secret visits by judges before a final five are selected in July. The winner will then be announced in September at a presentation in London.
John Calton, a chef and one of the co-owners of The Staith House, said: “This is a massive achievement for us and we are absolutely buzzing to be shortlisted.
“We work closely with our suppliers to make sure we are sourcing the best quality seafood for customers and I spent some time working with Nathan Outlaw who taught me so much about working with fish and shellfish which has played a big part in what we do at The Staith House.
“Our focus now is just keeping up the hard work and getting in to the next round. To be one of the top 5 restaurants in the UK would be even more amazing.”
The 2016 winning restaurant will be invited to an all-expenses paid study trip to Brixham, Devon, and receive a bespoke trophy and an individually designed seafood masterclass.
