An entrepreneur who turned a spare room into a business idea is celebrating a milestone.

Julia Murray set up My Retreat to offer luxury spa therapies combined with an holistic approach to well-being.

Based in Links Road, Cullercoats, the retreat is celebrating its first anniversary.

Julia said: “The therapy room is in my home, my sanctuary, my retreat.

“My clients tell me that My Retreat really feels like their own and that they feel truly nurtured and pampered. It’s been truly wonderful starting this business and helping so many people.”

Treatments include facials, massage, luxury manicures and pedicures to de-stress, re-energise and balance the body and mind.

A special anniversary evening is being held on Thursday, July 16, for friends and customers.

Julia, a successful dance teacher and GCSE and A-Level Examiner, started her own business after recognising the gap in the market for luxury spa therapies without the associated prices, fulfilling a personal ambition to re-train in a range of beauty and holistic qualifications.

New for 2015 was the launch of exclusive residential retreats at venues within the Northumberland countryside, an area of her business Julia is hoping to expand to offer the ultimate relaxing get-away for one or two nights.

Helen Bowman, mum of two from Whitley Bay, said: “Limited time as a full-time mum means the time I do spend at My Retreat is the perfect bit of luxury I need every so often.

“It’s relaxing, welcoming and means I go home refreshed and ready to face the world.”
