Reward for volunteering

A borough sea cadet has been given a special certificate for completing 100 hours of volunteering.

In addition to school, attending TS Whitley sea cadets twice a week and being part of a netball team, Tailarose Whitelock, 15, from Whitley Bay High School, has found the time to clock up this impressive volunteering record.

Through Sea cadets, which has a policy of community involvement as part of its ethos of giving young people a head start in life through fun and nautical adventure, she has given up many hours to help steward community events like the Warrior Beach Assault and Tynemouth’s food festival.

Tailarose has also helped to fundraise on behalf of the Royal British Legion and the RNLI at Cullercoats, and coach a junior netball team every week.

Taliarose said: “I enjoy getting involved with different people in the community.”
