Robins confirm four new signings
North Shields FC have announced four new signings for the 2018/19 squad.
They are: Dan Lister, a goalkeeper from South Shields FC; Noah Summers, a defender from Whitley Bay FC; Callum Johnston , a striker from Whitley Bay; and Cam Cunningham, a midfielder from Tyne Met College and Whitley Bay.
Lister signed for South Shields a year ago and spent some time out on loan including a spell at Whitley Bay and later at Birtley Town where he helped them to promotion back to the Northern League.
Johnston came through the ranks at Gateshead FC then signed for his home town club in Ashington where he was top scorer before his move to Whitley Bay just before Christmas last season. He will be known to Shields fans as he scored the winner back in January during Whitley’s 2-1 win. He is very quick and skilful with an eye for goal.
Cunningham is an extremely talented young player who burst onto the scene last season. He made the transition from junior into senior football with ease and is tipped to go far if he continues to progress at a rapid rate.
Meanwhile, the club’s management team have been working hard at appointing a new coach and physio.
Steve Swinyard has been named as the new coach.
He joins the club after two previous spells at the club as a player as well as playing for Gateshead FC, Team Northumbria and Brandon almongst others.
He has been asssistant manager to Anthony Woodhouse at Benfield FC and was a coach at Ashington FC.
The UEFA B licences Coach has worked in the professional game for five years with Newcastle United and the Foundation.
The new physio is David Power, who graduated with a BSc Athletic Therapy & Training in Dublin City University before moving to Newcastle for further study in Physiotherapy.
He has worked with professional teams in Ireland, the UK and the USA, in professional football, rugby and other sports. He is also a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and recently completely the FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine. Since moving to Newcastle, he has worked in a private practice clinic and also with Whitley Bay FC for the past two seasons, rejoining Marc Nash and management at North Shields.
