Wembley winners North Shields FC are to celebrate their trophy success at one of the most prestigious events on the north east racing calendar.

The Robins triumphed in the FA Vase final at Wembley in May, coming from a goal down to beat Glossop North End 2-1 after extra time.

Many of the lads are keen race-goers and attend the Plate every year so we are thrilled to be invited to continue our celebrations at such a prestigious event

The squad celebrated their win with an open-top bus tour around North Shields.

And they are now set to showcase their achievements on Saturday, June 27, in front of thousands of race-goers at the Northumberland Plate Festival at Newcastle Racecourse.

Players and management will get the chance to hold aloft the FA Vase trophy in the parade ring at 12.45pm, before enjoying a buffet and watching the historic Plate race from a front row marquee.

Andy Bowman, assistant manager of North Shields FC, said: “Many of the lads are keen race-goers and attend the Plate every year so we are thrilled to be invited to continue our celebrations at such a prestigious event.

“I’m sure that it will be a great day and we’re grateful to Newcastle Racecourse for their generous hospitality.”

David Williamson, executive director at Newcastle Racecourse, said: “North Shields FC’s Wembley triumph is one of the great north east sporting achievements of 2015 and we are delighted to welcome the club to our venue.

“They deserve their chance in the spotlight and we wish them a similarly successful year next season.”

The Northumberland Plate Festival runs from June 25 to June 27 and is set to attract some 40,000 race-goers over the three days.

It begins today (Thursday) with the Betfred Seaton Delaval Trophy Raceday, followed by the Betfred Gosforth Park Cup Night on the Friday. The festival culminates on Saturday, when the Gosforth track will host the £140k feature race, the historic Northumberland Plate.
