Rockcliff made sure they held on to second spot in Durham and Northumberland Division 2 with an emphatic ten try romp against Darlington.

With the Hillheads ground still out of action, North Shields kindly made their pitch and clubhouse available for the game.

Tries came via a try apiece for Ryan Rapallo, Thomas Reid, Dan O’Sullivan, Greg Dixon, Charlie Muzzlewhite, two from Liam Bowman and a hat trick for Chris McCabe. Simon Ayre added six conversions.

The bonus point win leaves the Red and Golds six points clear of third placed Whitby, although they have a game in hand. Rockcliff have two games left, both away from home; a tough fixture at fourth placed Hartlepool next Saturday, and the rescheduled match at Richmondshire on 12th May.

The game was followed by Rockcliff’s annual players’ dinner, and Greg Dixon was named as player of the season, Niall Stokes the players’ player of the season, and Stephen Pentland as most improved player.

Five players earned their first team ties; Mal Donald, Greg Dixon, Alex Hayton, Rob Hamilton and Ryan Rapallo.

For the Vikings, Chris Pearson was nominated player of the season, David Neasham was players’ player of the season and Paul White won the most improved player award.

The Rangers’ player of the season was Matthew Dunbar, players’ player was Paul Brister, and most improved player was Thomas Dent
