Women role models from the past and present were highlighted in an event marking International Women’s Day.

Icons such as Amelia Earhart, Joanna Lumley, Jane Goodall and Jessica Ennis were among those selected by eight young women on North Tyneside Council’s Youth Council for the event at the Quadrant.

More than 40 people attended, including mothers and other family members, as the event also discussed the lack of young women studying science, technology, engineering and maths subjects.

The session was led by Emma Garrick, of TyneMet.

The event was organised by North Tyneside Women’s Voices in conjunction with the youth council. For more on the group email Penny Remfry via
