Runners snap up places in 10k road race

More than 1,000 people have booked their place in the annual North Tyneside 10k Road Race.

The Easter Sunday race begins at The Parks Sports Centre, in North Shields, and takes in the Fish Quay, Tynemouth Priory and The Links, before finishing at St Mary’s Lighthouse.

This year sees the introduction of online entry and electronic chip timing. Runners will also receive their results by text message.

Coun Eddie Darke, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “The road race is now in its 11th year and it’s wonderful to see such a fantastic response just two weeks after entry opened.”

The 6.2-mile run is organised by North Tyneside Council and is supported by Start Fitness and Northumbria Spring Water who provide the drinking water throughout the race.

The entry fee for a UK Athletics Club member is £17 and a non-club member or fun runner fee is £18. There is a range of prizes available and each person taking part will receive a goody bag and t-shirt at the end. Participants must be aged over 15 years.
