Saddle up for charity’s Tyne bike challenge

Borough residents are being encouraged to get on their bike to help a charity’s work supporting the elderly.

Age UK North Tyneside is teaming up with WATBike to host the ‘Tour de Tyne’ charity cycle ride on Sunday, May 10.

Back for the second year, this year’s event has been extended to cater for the more experienced cyclist.

The challenge will contain the choice of two rides – either 23 or 42 miles – covering a route along the banks of the Tyne from North Shields Fish Quay to Newcastle, Gateshead and South Shields, while an extended route to Wylam for the more experienced cyclist has been created.

The 23-mile route will start at 9am and costs either £15 for adults or £2.50 for children.

The 42-mile event starts at 8am with entry £20 for adults and £3.50 a child.

Young people under 14 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Age UK North Tyneside is keen for previous participants and newcomers to take part and help raise much needed funds to support services for older people in North Tyneside.
